Professor Mohammed Hashmat Ali’s Experiences
After earning both his undergraduate and master’s degrees in chemistry from Dhaka University in the early 1980s, Professor Mohammed Hashmat Ali moved to the USA with a Graduate Assistantship at South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota. He completed an MS at South Dakota State University and later earned a Ph.D. at the University of Kansas.USA.
After a year of post-doctoral research, Professor Mohammed Hashmat Ali accepted a teaching position at Southeast Missouri State University in the USA, where he taught for 27 years.
Professor Ali conducted research in the field of Green Chemistry. He is currently working as an adjunct faculty member at a university in Florida.
Proffesor Mohammed Hashmat Ali has interst in eastern and western literature and philosophy, photography, and travel.

Honors Dr. Mohammed Ali received


Professor Mohammed Hashmat Ali has been honored (British spelling: honoured) with multiple Best Research Awards from Southeast Missouri State University, as well as the college’s Pride Award for excellence in teaching, research, and service. In recognition of his contributions, he was granted Emeritus Professor status. Dr. Ali has also received a Fulbright Scholarship and selected for a second one by the Fulbright committee but the host country did not follow through their part of the promise. He received the inaugural Annual Green Chemistry Award of Pfizer Pharmaceutical Company. Pfizer Pharmaceutical company also supported Dr. Ali’s research in Green Chemistry by providing funding. Professor Mohammed Ali developed several solid-supported catalysts and procedures for solid-supported reagents, which significantly reduced the use and generation of environmentally harmful chemicals and toxic waste in chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing processes.
The procedures and catalysts developed by Dr. Mohammed Ali are utilized by major pharmaceutical companies and academic laboratories worldwide. He has published numerous articles in prestigious peer-reviewed scientific international chemistry journals and is well-known among researchers in the field of Green Chemistry both in the USA and internationally.
Professor Mohammed Ali’s research has been funded by US government agencies, Southeast Missouri State University’s Grants and Research Funding Committee (GRFC), Pfizer Pharmaceutical Company’s research grant, and by others.
His research was high-lighted in the Chemical and Engineering (C&E) News and other news media. He has mentored numerous students, chaired the GRFC and other university committees, and served as a member of the Faculty Senate at Southeast Missouri State University. Additionally, he was a member of the College International Committee.
He has given invited lectures in the USA, various other countries, and at around 20 universities in Bangladesh that includes Dhaka University, Chittagong University, Rajshahi University, Shahjalal University (Sylhet), BUET (Dhaka), Atomic Energy Center, Jagannath University, North South University, Brac University, Daffodil University, IUBAT University, BIT, State University of Bangladesh, Eden Girls College and University, Home Economics College, and many more.
